About the Role:
We are seeking an experienced Senior Backend Engineer to join a team in charge of the development of developer tools and robust infrastructure solutions. In this role, you will play a key part in enhancing the developer experience, driving technology modernization initiatives, and ensuring our infrastructure is optimized for efficiency and performance. Your expertise will be instrumental in propelling our teams forward by fostering a culture of innovation and continuous improvement.
This position is ideal for engineers who are passionate about enabling operational excellence through smart automation, data-driven insights, and scalable internal platforms. Your contributions will directly enhance service reliability, reduce downtime, and improve customer trust in our insurance services.
Responsibilities:
Develop and maintain backend tools and services that support operations workflows, including issue triage, order/policy remediation, and RCA automation.
Build internal dashboards, monitoring frameworks, and alerting systems to provide visibility into operational health and KPIs.
Take ownership of software applications, APIs, and services crucial for our data platform's seamless operation.
Design microservices and serverless applications supporting the entire data lifecycle, from data ingestion to customer impact.
Drive engineering best practices within the team and organization, fostering collaboration and adoption of clinical data products.
Leverage AWS services (such as Lambda, Step Functions, DynamoDB, S3, CloudWatch, etc.) to build tools and automation that enhance system monitoring, visibility, and operational effectiveness.
Participate in on-call rotations and incident reviews, helping to improve system reliability and operational response.
Collaborate with cross-functional teams including Support, Product, and Engineering to understand business pain points, provide feedback, and help drive improvements across the product and operational workflows.
Mentor junior developers and contribute to code quality through code reviews and design discussions.
Requirements:
Hands-on experience with AWS cloud services (Lambda, Step Functions, DynamoDB, S3, CloudWatch, etc.)
Ability to initiate impact with minimal high-level direction.
Proficiency in node.js, Python, or other modern programming languages with a focus on backend development
Familiarity with software development best practices: testing, version control, CI/CD.
Strong problem-solving skills with a focus on production reliability and operational effectiveness.
Experience working in enterprise software, especially within insurance, finance, or regulated industries.
Exposure to monitoring/observability tools such as CloudWatch, Datadog, or Grafana.
Understanding SLAs, incident response processes, and operational playbooks.
Comfortable working in environments with legacy systems and modern cloud-based services.
Familiarity with scripting languages (JavaScript, Python, Bash) and SQL for operational automation.
Experience with infrastructure as code (Terraform, CloudFormation)
